In the coming week, one brother will be leaving and another will be coming. It’s very bittersweet and so, our family dinners are that much more important and special to me. Despite it not being the most calorie friendly activity, sharing and eating food is how I like to celebrate. It brings people together, presenting an opportunity for everyone to unite at one table and converse with each other about their day. A time to connect and savor (not just the food, but the memory that you’re making).
Sunday supper went something like this:
Paella (video written down in the books). Apparently it’s one of baby brother’s new favorite foods and was totally worth the $14 Saffron…geez!
I’ll be picking up one brother from his journey from The Netherlands and dropping the other off at college *sigh*
On a brighter note, here’s a picture that makes me smile…
Gabs & her gf, showing me their stunts.
Yummies & Cartwheels,
Love,
Your Squishy Monster ^.~
Family meals are the best. And yep, saffron is expensive, but worth it when you are making paella don’t you think.
Sam
Absolutely
I love those banana cream pies!
Thank you!! =D
I hope you get into the program soon!
ohhh man, so do I…thank you!!!
I’m so sorry about your brother leaving…but it’s nice that the other will be arriving! That paella looks totally delish.
Thank you (and yes, it lessens the blow) =D
Sometimes it’s worth it to sacrifice some calories for the people we love! At least it sounds like you guys are spending happy quality time together!
Definitely! I wholeheartedly agree!! =D
Aww, sweet post. Good luck to your whole family!!

Thank you, Kat!
I love seafood paella! I can’t get enough of it and so hard to stop (and I love carb…). It’s always sad to say good bye to my family knowing that I don’t see them till next year.
I had no idea baby brother loved it so much! I will definitely be making more =D
I know how tough it can be to send a loved one off, but there’s always the reunions to look forward to! In the mean time, stay happy and healthy.
I was never good at doing cartwheels, or anything athletic as a kid…still not…it looks like so much fun to do in the sun though!
You are so right. (also, I’ve never been able to do a cartwheel…it’s one of Gab’s many talents) =D
Family meals are very special. I miss my children being at the table, talking about our day and joking around. I guess that’s why I blog – so I can share at a big table! Your banana cream pies look amazing! Very nice post – I look forward to more
oh yes, these moments are very precious
Paella? Did I see paella? Interestingly, we had paella catered for my in-laws 60th wedding anniversary celebration. It was wonderful – and fun to watching and interacting with the caterer was part of the experience for all.
That sounds like a lot of fun…I hope to do it up big for my parents 60th as well…that’s a HUGE milestone!!
Funny how it doesn’t matter how much you spend on something special. Memories are all we have in the end, so worth the investment! Love the paella! And the happy children pics. Kids make the world go round : )
Yup–totally worth it =D
I want ta do stunts too…I better have supper first
How bout snow stunts? Loved the video =D
My friend at least you had a proper goodbye
And it’s never for long no?
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
This is true =D
Saffron is expensive but so worth it
I would say so—I still have a few precious threads left.
Pie makes everything better! How did the tests go?
Thank you so much for asking! I went in yesterday and I’m on a waiting list to be referred to a specialist–the wait time is 4-8 weeks but I’m just happy to have been accepted into the program in the first place so I’m rolling with the good with the bad.
Handstands make me happy
Gab’s makes me happy =D
Memorable meals are the best, Squishy. I use to send the kids off to College with their very best favorite recipes with them! Now I just put them in their Scrapbooks. (tastes change you know but alas, the memories…
Thanks for sharing…
You’re a great mama…I would have LOVED that!!
I love what you said about sitting down and eating together, it’s so true. Full bellies and great memories are what count! I’m glad to hear your brother is coming for a visit and I hope the other one is too far away at college. Adore the picture of Gabs and her friend

I’m really excited but sad that we only have such a short period of time to spend it together. I guess that’s what happens when kids grow up, LOL!
Thank you, Les!!!
