Welcoming the Weekend

September 23, 2012 by The Squishy Monster

Starting off the weekend right with flowers for my Mama

Belated birthday gifts from baby brother’s girlfriend in Dubai

Posing with The Most Interesting Man In the World!

Playing gigantic Jenga & Connect Four (go big or go home, as my friend emphatically says)

Then, there’s the food!

Blueberry Cream Scones, just minus the Pumpkin/Spices and sub in 1/2 c Blueberries = freshly baked goodness for breakfast (or a really late night snack…shhh)! ;)

Kim Bap Rolls for lunch with the last bits of rice remaining

Especially delicious with lots of Kimchi and Sriracha for dipping.

Dinner: Homemade Maple Bacon Beans (in my new Cast Iron Skillet–thanks to my baby brothers) =D and Bacon Burgers to bid farewell to Summer.

I you once, I love you twice, I love you more than beans and rice,

Love,

Your Squishy Monster ^.~

YAY! That makes me very happy =D

  4. Charles says:

Oh my God… Gigantic Jenga…….. is that a “thing”? Like, is it something you can buy? Or was it made out of some wood by a friend/family member? That looks so damn awesome. I’m totally going to make this, although I feel like it would hurt a lot if the stack fell on your head :D

  5. I don’t always pose with the most interesting man in the world, but when I do, I do it well. Good job, lol.

  6. What a beautiful week end!! I love your scones (and Jenga too)!!!

  7. What an awesome combo – maple bacon beans! I’d slab that on toast any day

  10. What a fab roundup of photos from a busy wkd. And yum on the Blueberry Cream Scones and beans!

  11. What a fantastic weekend menu lineup. Those wee camels are so adorable. I would love to see Dubai…it seems we have watched so many documentaries about this city that came up out of the desert.

  12. What a lovely weekend you had – from playing gigantic Jenga and hanging out with the cardboard “most interesting man in the world!” =) Joking aside, the flowers from your mom are beautiful! And the Kim Bap rolls look so yummy and healthy! By the way, playing with the gigantic jenga (which I’ve never seen in that size before) must have been a work out to move the pieces!

  13. love the blueberry scones… i just got back from London and I’m all about scones and anything British. Hope you are doing well!

  14. What a weekend – everything looks so cool. Those little camels are darling – I think I’ve got some envy. :)

  17. Suzie says:

The flowers are gorgeous, that’s awesome you get your Mom flowers so often. Lucky lady :) The little camels are adorable! I love your send-off to summer bbq. Sometimes nothing beats burgers and beans. I think I shall do the same :)

  18. Ames says:

What a lovely weekend wrap up :) I’m in love with your blueberry cream scones and want to give them a go! Love your blog – I can see me keeping up with what’s happening here :)

  19. DWei says:

Kind of wish my Mom liked flowers. Would make presents a lot easier.

She always tells me, “Why did you get me flowers? They’ll just die in a few days.” ._.

  20. Tandy says:

Looks like it was a great weekend :)

  21. i love the photo of you posing with the dude. You are so pretty! xO!

  22. Liz says:

Mmmmmm….your scones look fantastic! I’m not sure which I’d make first…the blueberry or the pumpkin :)

  23. Alison says:

    Mmmmm blueberry cream scones…..

  24. Is that a dos equis and a churro he has? That is a most interesting combo if so. –scratch that now that I’ve found my glasses looks more like a submarine sandwich.

Are camels your favorite trinket or is it anything tiny? I think my favorite has to be a wolf, if I have a spirit animal it would definitely be a wolf.

Are those hocky puck size chips for connect four o.o? It’s a little hard to guage the scale of them. The over-sized jenga looked extreemly large at first and I was curious how they were able to stack so high. From the angle, I thought they were using large planks and was stack from the floor to above the fence upon first glance. Nonetheless it’s still impressive stacking skills.

Are those rose hips I spy? Do you use them for tea or jams? I was actaully unaware that roses produced fruit until we were studying the life cycles of plants. I enjoy learning new things, if only there was a job for a professional student. ;)

Your food looks delish!! The lack of avacado in your Kim Bap rolls is a plus in my book. I’m not really fond of the green goop unless it’s in salsa-guac form. Your scones look absolutly fabulos, I’ve only ever encounted over dry and crunchy ones. Mmmmmm; burgers and beans from the grill, add some sweet roasted corn and I’d be in nirvana. (that is if corn is still safe to eat >.<')

I hope you had a great weekend and thanks for sharing!!

I think it’s a sub–I think my bf’s gf was just in Dubai and it was a popular thing there–They were pretty gigantic and therefore more exciting to play (I love over sized or teeny tiny things, lol). I adore rose hips and love to make them into candy. I hope you had a great weekend too, Paul!

  25. Looks like a great weekend!

  26. Ack, those miniature golden camels- I’m in love!

    • The Squishy Monster says:

lol–Me and Mom are both a bit obsessed with little things so needless to say, the little silver one now lives on her dresser =D

  27. The flowers and little camels are beautiful!

    • The Squishy Monster says:

I’m so excited about the tiny camels–they double as trinket boxes and I haven’t figured out what to put in the yet =D

  28. Lollll gigantic Jenga! Love it ;)
And gorgeous food all weekend I hope you had a good one :D

    Cheers
