Serves: 1-2 Dozen

Ingredients
  • 1½ c unbleached flour
  • 1 ts baking powder
  • ¼ ts fine salt
  • 1 stick soft, unsalted butter
  • ½ c sugar
  • 1 ts vanilla
  • 1 room temperature egg
  • Red and yellow food color

Instructions
  1. In the first bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In the second bowl, cream together the butter and sugar for about 5 minutes.
  3. Tip in the vanilla and egg.
  4. Incorporate the first bowl into the second bowl slowly and don’t over mix.
  5. Section off 3 lumps of dough. Tint one yellow, the other orange, and leave the last one plain.
  6. In a small loaf pan lined with plastic wrap, press the yellow dough on the bottom, then the orange and the plain.
  7. Chill for at least an hour.
  8. Slice strips and cut into “candy corn” pieces {refer to video}. Bake at 350 for about 5 minutes (if you’re making them to scale).
